More School Counselors Needed: Supporting the Whole Student by Junhee Han

Many students today are stressed and worried. They feel pressure from school, homework, friends, and even family problems. That is why schools need more counselors. A school counselor is a professional who supports students’ emotional well-being, personal challenges, and future planning.

First, counselors help students with their mental health. If a student is feeling sad, anxious, or angry, the counselor can talk with them and provide support.

However, in many schools, there are too many students for just one counselor to handle. This often means students do not receive the help they truly need.

Second, counselors also assist with academic progress and future goals. They advise students on college options, career paths, and effective study strategies.

This is especially important for students who may lack support at home.

If there are too few counselors, students may feel isolated. Some could lose interest in school or engage in problematic behavior. On the other hand,
when there are enough counselors, students feel secure, supported, and more prepared to learn.

In conclusion, schools need more counselors to help students cope with stress, manage their emotions, and plan for the future.

Just as skilled teachers and well-designed homework support learning, good counselors help students grow and succeed in life.
