Resilience in the Face of Change: Navigating Uncertainty at School by Sophie Clarke

A March 2024 piece in The Telegraph (“How Schools Are Helping Students Cope with Uncertainty”) explored how schools across the UK are addressing the lingering effects of the pandemic, economic challenges, and rapid social change. The article highlighted new initiatives—mindfulness classes, support hotlines, and student-led forums—designed to build resilience.

Reading the article, I thought about the changes at my own school: new routines, canceled events, and the need to adapt quickly. It wasn’t easy, and I remember feeling lost at times. But through peer groups and open conversations, I learned that resilience isn’t just about “toughing it out”—it’s about seeking support, staying flexible, and having hope for the future.

The Telegraph article concluded that fostering resilience should be a core part of education, not just a response to crisis. I agree, and as I look forward to studying psychology, I want to help create environments where students feel empowered to face challenges, not just survive them. The world is changing fast, but with the right support, so can we.
